License & Refund Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Buddy is a $9 Mac app made by Spokane Biz Doctors LLC. This page has two parts: our refund promise, then the license you agree to when you install or use Buddy. Both are in plain English on purpose. Questions go to cory@spokanebizdoctors.com, and Cory, who made Buddy, answers them.
Refunds: 30 days, no questions asked
If Buddy isn’t for you, email cory@spokanebizdoctors.com within 30 days of your purchase, from the address you bought with (or include your order number). We refund the full price to your original payment method through Stripe. You don’t need to give a reason.
Refunds usually show up on your statement within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your bank. After a refund, please delete Buddy and stop using your license key.
After 30 days we still help. If an update of ours breaks Buddy on a supported Mac and we can’t fix it, we’ll refund you.
Please email us before opening a dispute with your card company. It’s faster for you, and we answer every message.
End-User License Agreement
This agreement is between you and Spokane Biz Doctors LLC (“we,” “us”), Spokane, Washington. By installing or using Buddy, you agree to it. If you don’t agree, don’t install Buddy, and if you’ve paid, ask for a refund.
1. What you get
When you buy Buddy, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Buddy on any Macs that you personally use. The license doesn’t expire. Each person who uses Buddy needs their own license, so a company buying for a team buys one per person.
You’re buying a license to use Buddy, not the app itself. We keep all rights to the app, its characters, artwork, voices and name.
2. Free trial
Before you enter a license key, Buddy works fully for 7 days. After that, he stops reacting to your Claude Code sessions until you enter a key. Nothing else on your Mac is affected.
3. Your license key
Your key is checked on your Mac, without calling home. Keep it to yourself: don’t share it, post it, or sell it. If a key is shared publicly, we may stop honoring it in future versions and send its owner a new one.
4. What you may not do
Don’t resell, rent, or redistribute Buddy or your key. Don’t remove or get around the license check. Don’t reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the app, except where the law says you may. Don’t reuse Buddy’s characters, artwork, or voices outside the app.
5. Updates
Every 1.x update is included in your purchase. Buddy checks for updates and installs them with your permission. A future 2.0, if there is one, may be sold separately, and your 1.x version keeps working.
6. What Buddy does on your Mac
To do his job, Buddy, with your permission, installs hooks in your Claude Code settings so he can see when a session is working, waiting, or done. He brings the right app or terminal window to the front when you click him. He notices when music is playing and can play or pause it. He can speak using voices on your Mac. You can remove the hooks from his menu at any time.
Buddy has no account and no tracking. He doesn’t send your data to us. He connects to the internet only to check for updates, to download the optional natural voice if you choose to install it, and for Claude Code requests you start yourself.
7. Claude Code and other software
Buddy is an independent app. He works with Claude Code, but he isn’t made, endorsed, or supported by Anthropic. “Claude” and “Claude Code” are trademarks of Anthropic. Your use of Claude Code is covered by Anthropic’s own terms, and you’re responsible for your Claude Code account and any usage charges.
If Anthropic changes how Claude Code works, Buddy may stop showing some or all session updates until we release a fix. We’ll work to fix it quickly, and the refund promise above still applies.
Buddy includes open-source software, including Sparkle (MIT license). The optional natural voice is downloaded from public sources when you install it and comes under its own open-source licenses, including Kokoro-82M (Apache 2.0) and eSpeak NG (GPL 3.0). Those licenses, not this one, cover those components.
8. No warranty
Buddy is a desktop companion, and we work hard to make him reliable. Even so, to the extent the law allows, Buddy is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Buddy will be error-free or that he’ll catch every session event. Don’t rely on him as your only way of knowing that something important needs you.
9. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about Buddy is limited to the amount you paid for him. We aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, such as lost profits, lost data, or missed work. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
10. Ending this agreement
You can end this agreement at any time by deleting Buddy. It also ends if you break it, or after a refund. When it ends, stop using Buddy and delete him.
11. Export
You agree not to use or export Buddy in violation of U.S. export laws or sanctions.
12. Changes, law, and contact
We may update this page. Changes apply to new purchases and new versions, never retroactively to a version you already have. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and any dispute will be heard in the courts of Spokane County, Washington. Before any of that, email cory@spokanebizdoctors.com. We resolve almost everything that way.
Our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy cover the website and checkout. Where they differ from this page about Buddy, this page wins.
